In-House Cytology
Fast, Accurate Diagnostics for Better Pet Care
At Black Creek, we understand that when your pet is unwell, every moment counts. That’s why we offer in-house cytology services — a fast and effective way to diagnose a wide range of conditions using microscopic examination of cells.
What is Cytology?
Cytology is the study of cells under a microscope. In veterinary medicine, it helps our doctors diagnose infections, inflammations, and even cancer by evaluating samples from:
- Skin lumps or masses
- Ear swabs
- Fine needle aspirates (FNA) from internal organs or lymph nodes
- Fluid samples (e.g., from joints, chest, or abdomen)
Why In-House Cytology Matters
With on-site cytology capabilities, we can:
- Deliver same-day results in many cases
- Make faster treatment decisions
- Reduce the need for multiple visits
- Offer more cost-effective care
This means less waiting, less stress, and faster relief for your pet.
When Is Cytology Recommended?
Your veterinarian may recommend cytology if your pet has:
- A new or changing lump or bump
- Chronic ear infections
- Unexplained swelling or fluid buildup
- Skin conditions or hair loss
- Internal organ abnormalities seen on imaging
What to Expect
Most cytology samples can be collected during a regular appointment and are minimally invasive. Some samples require fine-needle aspiration, which is generally quick and well-tolerated by pets. Once the sample is prepared, our trained team examines it under a high-powered microscope. In complex or uncertain cases, we may still send samples to a veterinary pathologist for confirmation.
